Substance Use

IMPACT is working with community residents and partners to create lasting community change. IMPACT stands for Inspiring and Mobilizing People to Action for Community Transformation, and focuses on youth substance use prevention (alcohol, prescription drugs, marijuana, tobacco/nicotine), harm reduction for people who use drugs, and supporting substance use recovery in our community. Anyone with an interest in addressing substance use in Wood County is invited to participate.

Call 988 if you or someone is in need of addiction recovery help. The Wisconsin Addiction Recovery Helpline is a statewide resource for finding substance use treatment and recovery services. The helpline is free, confidential, and available 24/7.

Below is a list of current projects IMPACT is working on.

    • Wood County law enforcement agencies are collecting Place of Last Drink (POLD) data to indicate where overserving is taking place.

    • Supporting businesses with an alcohol license to understand and follow state laws for serving/selling alcohol, including providing resources and best practices recommendations for identifying signs of intoxication, checking identification, and refusing sales to minors.

    • Support law enforcement in national prescription drug take back events.

    • Promote permanent prescription drug disposal sites at all Wood County law enforcement agencies, as well as select pharmacy locations.

    • Distribute free resources for securing or disposing of medications from home. Click here to learn more!

    • Enhance Rx for Health program with Aspirus Riverview, to encourage preventative “prescriptions” to community programs and resources.

    • Participate in the Dose of Reality campaign.

    • Participate in Stay True to You and THC is Changing

    • Conduct community scans to monitor how hemp-derived THC products are being sold and marketed in Wood County.

    • Increase awareness around Wood County ordinance 236.05 that states individuals must be age 21 or older to purchase hemp-derived cannabinoid products with psychoactive properties, including delta-8 THC, delta-10 THC, HHC, HHC-O, THCA, THC-O, THCP, THCV. This ordinance also prohibits businesses that sell these products from opening within 750 feet of a youth-friendly location, including near schools, preschools, daycare/childcare centers, parks, playgrounds, youth recreational facilities, and youth-serving organizations.

    • Share county ordinance, community scan data, and information about hemp-derived cannabinoids with local municipalities.

    • Support Providers and Teens Communicating for Health (PATCH) program, which empowers teens to advocate for their own health.

    • Train community members (residents, partners, professionals) in Overdose Prevention and Narcan® Administration.

    • Promote free access to harm reduction resources in Wood County.

    • Promote tools/resources to improve the health of people who use drugs:

      • Participate in the LifePoint Program for sterile supplies, vein health, syringe disposal, and access to resources

      • Free access to Narcan® nasal spray

      • Free access to fentanyl test strips

    • Support individuals in recovery through a partnership with Three Bridges Recovery Wisconsin, Inc.

    • Partner with local organizations who house individuals recovering from a substance use disorder.

    • Advocate for policies that support recovery and remove discrimination/exclusion of people who use drugs.
